Behold! Its the Special Operations division.

Mclaren has now fully entered into the production of super-cars and we know it well that their first creation after F1, the MP4-12C can compete well with the ferraris, jags and the astons in performance so that has made McLaren think why not compete with them in terms of luxury and style. For the said purpose McLaren has buckled up and has line-up its 'Special Operations' group.

The idea is that now you can buy very rare special edition cars offered from McLaren or if you are a money sucking multi billionaire who doesn't have to give away a leg, an arm or a kidney for a car and you made your dream McLaren when you were a kid then you  can also ask McLaren Special Operations to build you one-off dream McLaren for you. According to McLaren they care about their precious platinum buyers and they help them out every possible way. Here are the few projects that has been carried out by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) till now.

The first and foremost is this Project X-1, an exclusive one-off car for an undisclosed McLaren enthusiast. Just give it another look and its like What The Hell is that thing, probably the most weird one-off car ever made. Even the Sultan of Brunei never came up with a thing like that. According to the MSO spokesman, the customer wanted something with performance of MP4-12C and a body that will define his passion, needs and his personality (personality, right?). So X-1 has only a difference of carbon mono-cell design and underneath its basically a normal 12C. The car made its debut at the Pebble beach Autoshow few months ago where it was attended to see by many big names. The car was sent back to McLaren Technology Center (MTC) where after final inspection it will be delivered to the customer's car collection in 2013.

Next one is the Project Bespoke HS production of MP4-12C. Four exclusive MP4-12Cs for four special customers of McLaren. McLaren has called them MP4-12C HS where HS stands for High Sport. These special five HS versions pack greater punch, nearly 700bhp which directly takes them into Lamborghini Aventador territory. The HS version is characterized by its distinct body panels primarily front and rear bumpers, side gills and larger intakes. 4/5 units are for sale whereas 5th will be kept at MTC. Also fitted with are signature bespoke wheels with HS emblem forged on them. As a feedback, the_Napster think the McLaren has given a real killer look to more science fictioned standard MP4-12C.

Here is the next codenamed the Project 8 that is exclusively for the representation of McLaren's  legacy.
The MP4-12C doesn't replace F1 as a performance benchmark but it is the first car after the mighty F1 that McLaren has built from ground zero. Thus MSO came up with the idea of painting one unit of each car in a same livery and put them on display at MTC. The F1 choosen seems to be the F1-LM of F1-GTR, the McLaren guys are reluctant to made that information public. It is rumored to be the F1-LM version since Lewis Hamilton is leaving McLaren at Formula 1 at the end of this season. Ron Dennis (Head of McLaren) promised Lewis the last F1-LM if he brought another championship title home but that thing is out of the equation now.

McLaren MP4-12C Singapore Edition
The MSO recently came up with this exclusively limited three unit version of MP4-12C. Codenamed Singapore Edition because of its launching at the platinum F1 Grand Prix at the Singapore, the only Formula 1 race that takes place at night. Priced at $1.28 million, SE comes with special McLaren-Mercedes racing livery and with engine tweaks that helps the twin turbo engine crank out 75 more horsepower. The units will be delivered to the customers by 2013.

Summing all up in a nut-shell, McLaren conquered the racing grounds, they shifted to the roads where they came up with astounding MP4-12C, that made Ferrari and Lamborghini think "yeah! now we really need to come up with something special or we are dead!", the only ground left unconquered was the end for the people who seek performance with luxury and style, something that is completely bonkers, something completely odd and MSO is there to do the job, ARE THEY DOING THEIR JOB PROPERLY? we have given you the space below...!

  1. i think same as you have mentioned, these cars are indeed of such kind that we can say they have made a new breed in the motor industry.
I think, these will do great business in Arab areas, but still economical crisis will affect their sales. It is also a possibility that McLaren took this step to stabilize their earnings. and if it is the case, then i would like that the company should get more economically weakened and start making cars of this style in 1.3L to 3.0L engine range producing 150 to 300 bhp. Then it will be a treat for every person in the world i guess :D

  2. MP4-12C is already 2.8 liter twin turbo V8 so its pretty small engine already, thy r taking money for brand and of course bits n pieces of technology.
