Trying the Mobile Revolution...

So as my memory recalls, we in our high school years, probably 4-5 years ago used to see people having cellphones in their hands. Cheap, fairly cheap, average, expensive, fairly expensive and then the out-classy cellphones. People, especially youth used to have a craze, passion and a taste. Not everyone used to like big, boring and bulky bar phones but few with style used to like and keep the sliding and flip-phones as well. The taste of a gal or a guy was one way or the other was judged from his/her outfit and

his/her mobile phone e.g, somebody with a sliding phone was considered outlook conscious and belonging to an above average family, a guy having a cheap plasticy phone was either considered poor or someone who doesn't care about the world, he just needs phone to talk and text. Guys from around used to compare phones keeping every tiny detail in mind and comparing each and every good and bad aspect of a new phone that used to come out in the market.
There was some high end competition between the companies too in terms of design rather than performance and people used to choose style over performance ( well most of us does except few nut-heads :D ) e.g, Siemens S-series was considered classy but it used to suck OS-wise, the sliding phone design by Samsung was simply ahead of its time and oh who can forget the sleek and stylish flip design of Motorola.
Companies needed to consider the developing trends in the market, what people like in general, what does the youth like, what does our grandparents want and what does "GIRLS" want... those flashy pinky winky phones.
As the time passed, cellphone technology revolutionized by leaps and bounds. Screens got bigger, speakers got more powerful, the pictures got revolutionized and then the Symbian OS arrived that literally killed every other cellphone maker. Any one with Nokia mobile with a Symbian OS was considered a space-freak, an alienated war-machine or something like that, who could do anything ( well that was the concept then ) on his cellphone. The legendary N-series and business class E-series gave people food for thought what a powerful gadget a handheld phone can be!

As Nokia advertised itself in one of its great phones, the N-95 "There is a thing in my pocket, but it's not one thing, it's many!"

Now its 2013, a lot has changed, people are more materialistic than ever and the smart phone revolution is no exception. I admit that smart phones have provided us with a lot of new possibilities, provided us with one hell of a mobility solution but it has literally removed the charisma hidden behind the aurora. There is no craze that used to be there few years ago, now people don't look forward to an exception design or dedicated music keys. Everyone has a bar phone with a big screen, there are no buttons so no attitude :D and for girls, where is the pinky-winky bit? It's all too dry out there now. Everywhere we look we see multi-core processing smart-phone with multi GB storage, but where are the dedicated music keys? shutter for taking pictures instantaneously, 180-degree rotation cameras? that side of innovation has truly died... so
in the nut-shell... R.I.P the ancestors who set the class!

  1. who started this trend, I think it was apple, they made a single phone and don't know how they marketed it that whole world went after it. They killed the concept of choice. then android came in market, it has totally changed the cell phone concept. whether you have a Chinese copy or genuine RS75K phone, there is no difference in it. I think its a good point too, that everyone is able to buy a high end phone, and it has broken the apple's brand and status monopoly.
And before apple and all these things, I do remember there were PDAs, and tablets, microsoft OS was in them, but no one in the world knew what a tablet was, every one used to say these are just waste of money. But one day Steve job came on stage with a big iPhone and said, "here i command you to buy this thing, without it you cannot live, and all of you buy my new Ipad." and whole world obeyed him like he was enchanting words of God. And next day every one wanted a tablet PC and a new thing entered in people's lives. I am totally unable to understand this phenomenon, why do people go after apple so much, why they didn't buy tablet PCies which came before Ipad. Now people are buying other tablet PCies too.
Still today, I only look one thing in a phone, its camera, if a phone has good camera then its a good phone for me, I need nothing else in a phone :)

  2. yeah, apple is more like a status symbol for everyone and only God know how Apple made its monopoly and yes, microsoft started tablets long before apple in 2001 but nobody gave a damn about microsoft. I hate smart phone, they lack the true spirit of mobile phone, that passion and charisma...
